How to Propose a New Service

This page describes the process for requesting a new service from Information Services. This process also applies if you would like to partner with Information Services to offer a service. See Tips, below, for guidance.

  1. Fill out a Service Proposal
  2. Send the proposal to I.S. Operations Team chair: pchinn@uoregon.edu.

    • If you need assistance with the proposal or process (see Tips, below), include that request in your e-mail.
  3. I.S. Operations Team reviews the proposal from an operational perspective

    • Requestor(s) are contacted with questions
    • Operations Team focuses on the operational details of the proposal
    • On rejection by Operations Team, the proposal is returned to the requestor(s) with an explanation; this information is shared with I.S. Leadership Team
    • On approval by Operations Team, the proposal is sent to I.S. Leadership Team
  4. I.S. Leadership Team reviews the proposal from a strategy perspective

    • On rejection, the proposal is returned to the requestor(s) with an explanation; this information is shared with I.S. Operations Team

Tips:

  • Information Services focuses on providing services that scale as the scope and number of users grow. We are focusing less on providing one-to-one services.
    • E-mail, calendaring, networking, and enterprise business systems like Banner are examples of services that scale.
    • Programming consulting and web development projects for campus customers are examples of one-to-one services.
  • Information Services will work with you to develop the proposal. We use this form and proposal process ourselves, and we understand that some of these questions require research and discussions to answer. We have also found that the proposal process greatly helps to define the scope, resources, funding, stakeholders, and other important details that will help the proposal become a successful service.
  • You will be kept informed of the status of your service proposal.
