Small actions can make a big difference to protect yourself, your family, and the university. Here are four easy steps — the “Core 4” — that anyone can take to boost their online safety.

Five events on cybersecurity
Join these five exciting events for Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2025, hosted by the University of Oregon or the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA)!
- Oct. 1: Level up your cyber game. Compete for the UO in a fun, informative online game show hosted by BTAA.
- Oct. 8: Oregon Cyber Resilience Summit. The UO’s very own cybersecurity conference at the EMU. OCRS brings together the private and public sectors, owners and operators, cybersecurity experts, students, and community members to network and train together to defend our infrastructure against cyber threats.
- Oct. 9: Big Ten Cybersecurity Leaders: Securing the Mission. Four cybersecurity leaders—including José Domínguez, UO’s chief information security officer (CISO)—will chat about building awareness and resilience in higher ed. Online panel hosted by BTAA.
- Oct. 22: Scary Cyber Tales. Join cybersecurity experts—including PJ Barnett, UO’s cybersecurity awareness training and outreach program manager—for an hour of spooky tales and essential security lessons to ensure your digital life doesn't turn into a scary cyber tale. Online event hosted by BTAA.
- Oct. 29: Rachel Tobac, Ethical Hacker. Tobac executes social engineering attacks for a living and uses her real-life ethical hacking stories to help organizations stay secure. Online panel hosted by BTAA.
