Action required for Sept. 5 change to UO Wi-Fi

The UO will switch its two secure Wi-Fi networks—UO Secure and eduroam—to a new security standard on Saturday, Sept. 5, as recently announced.

  • All devices that use UO Secure or eduroam need a software update to keep connecting.
  • Just click Get connected above and follow the instructions.

  • Who: Residents of university housing.
  • Devices: Other types of devices, such as game consoles and smart TVs.

    • Before you can connect, you must register your device.
    • Disable the use of private MAC addresses or MAC randomization to ensure your device can continue connecting to UO Wi-Fi.

Coverage Map

The UO Campus Wi-Fi map shows wireless network coverage on the Eugene campus. Outdoor Wi-Fi coverage is limited.

The same networks are available at all UO locations, including UO Portland, the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology in Charleston, and Pine Mountain Observatory in Bend.

Which network should I use?

  • UO faculty, staff, and students: Use either eduroam or UO Secure—our two secure networks—for your computers, laptops, smartphones, and tablets.
    • These two networks now work the same while you're at the UO.
    • Eduroam offers a big bonus: it lets you connect to Wi-Fi at thousands of other institutions in the U.S. and around the world.
    • (You can use UO Guest temporarily to install the software for eduroam and UO Secure.)
  • Residents of university housing: Use ResNet IOT for smart TVs and game consoles.
  • Visitors from eduroam-participating universities: Use eduroam.
  • Other visitors: Use UO Guest.

Do I need to be on campus to set up UO Secure or eduroam?

  • No. You can install the software on your devices from anywhere!
  • All you need is a network or cellular connection.

How do I connect to UO Secure or eduroam?

  • First install the software on your device. Our onboarding tool supports most common devices and will help ensure your device is securely and properly configured.
  • After that, choose the eduroam network or UO Secure network when you’re on campus.

Can I trust SecureW2?

Yes, it's safe to trust SecureW2.

  • SecureW2 installs the certificates needed to connect to UO Secure and eduroam.
  • It verifies your identity using your UO account and Duo.
  • It doesn't monitor your activity, access personal files, install tracking software, provide remote access, or allow remote wiping of your device.
  • UO has used SecureW2 for many years, like many other universities.
