The login screen for the university’s Canvas service will soon change from one familiar UO sign-in method to another—just like the recent Zoom login update.
The Canvas switch is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 21.
How will the Canvas login change?
- Before: You enter your Duck ID username on a Shibboleth single sign-on screen.

- After: You’ll enter your full UO email address in a Microsoft single sign-on window—like you see logging in to UO Microsoft services, UOmail, UO VPN, and Zoom.

Which services are affected—and why?
- The Sept. 21 change affects only Canvas.
- It will join a growing list of UO services using the Microsoft login, including Concur, UKG, and Zoom.
- The cloud-based Microsoft login provides extra resilience and continuity for such cloud-based services.
- That said, Shibboleth single sign-on remains a secure and effective login method that you’ll continue to see on many UO services.
