We’re building a robust data storage ecosystem to support research and scholarship.
Dear UO faculty, staff, and GEs,
Good news! We’ve renewed UO’s Dropbox contract until 2028. This paves the way for expanding UO’s storage offerings for research and scholarship.
We're taking a comprehensive approach to modernizing storage services, in collaboration with our UO partners—delivering value today while building future-ready solutions for the university.

Growing Research Data Ecosystem
- Dropbox extended to 2028, with changes. We’ve renewed Dropbox as a secure cloud storage option for faculty, staff, graduate employees, research teams, and departments. Starting July 1, you’ll get a baseline amount of 2 TB of storage for free, expandable for a yearly fee.
- Large-scale research storage launches July 1. We’re expanding our research data ecosystem with secure, low-cost storage suitable for 1 TB to 100 TB and beyond. This new service will support research and scholarship across the sciences, arts, and humanities.
- Enhanced Globus software licenses. Researchers can now move large files between storage platforms at no cost—securely, via self-service. Easily transfer data into the large-scale research storage.

Foundational Storage for Everyone
- UO Microsoft platform serves the whole community. OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams remain foundational resources for UO students, faculty, and staff. These services offer cloud storage, document sharing, and collaboration, natively integrated with the Microsoft apps.

Data Security and Records Management
- UO employees are responsible for being aware of the sensitivity of the data they handle, for using approved storage locations that support that policy, and for following other controls associated with different classes of data. The Information Security Office is available to help you identify secure and compliant solutions. (Some UO cybersecurity reference pages require a Duck ID login.)
- Before deleting files or other data, or moving them out of UO systems, employees should be aware of their recordkeeping responsibilities as explained in the short video Records and Our Shared Responsibilities from University Records Management.
